For my first post, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Joshua Hantman
and I am from Southampton, Pa. I was born in Philadelphia, but I have not spent my
entire life here. I have lived in Colorado, California, Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey, and
a few summers I lived in Maine. I am an avid music fan and love to go and see live
music. I also play guitar even though I am no Eric Clapton. I love to cook, and I do
have a degree in Culinary Arts, but I am back in school now at Pennsylvania State
University earning a degree in Information Science and Technology. People always
ask me what my favorite thing to cook is, and even though I love many things, right
now my favorite is Cold Rice Noodle Salad with Peanut Sauce. I am a huge movie
buff, but I also love a good book. This summer I was in Maine for the season,
and took a trip up to see Stephen King's house, and a bunch of places that were
inspirations for some of his best work. We even got to see him walking his dog,
right around the corner from his house. Just as a side note, I am in my third year
of French at Penn State, and I really wish I could speak it, but it doesn't come
naturally to me at all. I figured I have a degree from a French Culinary
school, so I should speak French. Well that should give you a bit of info about me,
and feel free to ask any questions you may have, and maybe I will answer them.
For now, I will say au revoir.

What made you decide to come back to PSU Abington for an IST degree?
ReplyDeleteI had a very bad car accident trying to drive to work in the morning. I had worked 5 days in row where I got home at 5 am and then my boss told me I had to open the next morning cause no one could. I feel asleep at the wheel and I hit a big wooden electricity pole, and then spun into a traffic light. I should not have survived that accident and I had to move home from my apartment or move into a nursing home. I broke my head open in 3 places, broke a bunch of teeth, I still need to have some teeth removed, but couldn't sit in the chair to have it done in the hospital. I also broke my right side pelvis and all the ribs on my left side. So I had to lay flat for 8 months to heal. Took about a year to walk again, and that was with a cane. First it was a walker for awhile then a cane. In all that time I couldn't move, I decided to leave the restaurant business after 30 years, and go back to school for something else. I chose IST cause I am also very passionate about computers and had some experience working in IT. So even though I went back when I was 43, I still am very excited to start a new chapter in my life. I live near Abington so PSU was my first choice, plus all my friends went to PSU and I spent a lot of time there back in the early 90s. So I always felt like I should have gone there. So that is why I decided to go back for IST and to Penn State.
DeleteTrust me, you are not alone in the French dilemma. I took it in high school for 3 years and here at Penn State for 2 semesters, and I still don't remember any of it! I think that's cool how you have a Culinary Arts degree! I wish I was that good at cooking.
ReplyDeleteSo I am assuming you also have Professor Needham as I think he is the only French Professor at Abington. Yeah, walking into French 3, things are kinda crazy. I really wish I could get it better, but its so hard with all the work involved in that, and dealing with my other classes. Especially when its not even close to part of my major. IF you ever want to know how to cook something, just ask and I am happy to teach you anything you want to know.
