Interview Questionaire..With Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia on Good Morning America

Jerry Garcia & Bob Weir - Interview Recorded Live: 10/29/1980 - Good Morning America - New York, NY More Jerry Garcia & Bob Weir at Music Vault: http://www.musicvault.com Subscribe to Music Vault on YouTube: http://goo.gl/DUzpUF

1. why do you think you stay together so long?
2.  how do you get up and go on and do your number when your fighting
3. have you set up rules
4. are the members still in the band
5. what is the great beyond?
6. what do you think about your fans, the deadhaeds
7. so the show are always different
8. would you like to hear what some fans say about the band?
9. do you feel a commitment to the fans
10. how do you deal with them, spending all their money all on them
11. is your main purpose to just go play live and not care so much about the records
12. what do you listen to
13. do you listen to jazz or something like that
14. is there more freedom to play what you want today
So I thought she did a good job of asking Jerry and Bob questions. What stood out is how she gave them some good space to try and answer, because they are not the easiest people to interview. The reason behind that would be they don't always take interviewers all that serious, sort of the way the music can be silly and improvisational, they are the same way when people try to ask about what it is they do. I think that asking them about how they go on and play when they are fighting was a great question, because, as they never know what they are going to play or how, I thought that was a good question, to figure out how to improvise with people when your not getting along.

Asking them what they listen to I thought was also a very good question. I mean, as a fan, I always wonder what they are listening to and if that has to do with the way a show goes on any given day. Some of the questions were very generic, I thought, and I feel like their body language and answers showed that they also felt the same way. I have watched a lot of interviews with these guys, and I think they always have a that merry prankster kind of way of answering questions. A lot of underlying things going on there. and I think they kind of laugh their asses off once they are out of the interviews.

I think that this was a good interview for learning how to interview people because they might look jovial and fun, but they are not fans of being interviewed. So as they make a mild joke out of it, they did agree to do it, and that does mean they will answer some questions. I think if you do your homework and know something real about them, Jerry is more inclined to answer your questions where Bobby still just thinks that they don't need to be on Good Morning America. Either way, I feel like she asked some good questions and they did answer even if it was in a mocking sort of way. As the interview went on, they opened up a bit more and they were a bit kinder to her, but it took some time. So the lesson learned here would be you need to really know what you want to ask, and do your homework first, or your interview may not go as you see it in your head. So its good to practice and be ready for anything when you interview cause you never know what kind of head space the people you in interview will be in, and you need to be prepared for anything.

Interview Analysis

Questions I would have asked Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir

1. how does it feel to have been doing this for over 30 some years now
2. if you play to the fans, and not the record company, how does that effect your shows
3. if one of you is having a bad night, how does the rest of the band fill in to make the show better
4. do you ever use a setlist
5. how long do you think you can still go out and make these shows the experience they have been for so many years
6. how do you pick the songs you will play
7. how can you tell while improvising, where you want a song to go
8. do you ever take requests
9. Since you have such an eclectic fan base, do you ever go out and meet any of them
10. were do you find your influences to write music
11. Do you ever explain to people where and what the songs mean, or where they come from
12.  do you find yourselves trying still to make things fresh out there
13. or do you just go play ?
14. where does the name Grateful Dead come from, I have heard rumors you picked it out of a dictionary?
15. Do you see yourselves in 10 years still doing this
16. how to you find ways to make the songs sound fresh and different on any given night, since you dont play the same set-list ever
17.  do you still enjoy playing on stage with each other
18. who picks the songs each night, or do you just feel the crowd and then go from there.

QUIRK BOOKS- INFO ON COMPANY

So in the process of trying to find a company that I would like to work for, and to find a contact at those companies, I decided I wanted to reach out to a company called Quirk Books. If you have never heard of them, I will include a link to their website but I bet you have heard of them and not realized it. So what they do is they publish books, and they also take books and create fun and interesting way for kids (kids book division) and put them online in fun ways at least in the kids area, for you to read or interact with you books. They published " Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and also are the company behind " Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". I bet most people have seen the movie version of the first one. Quirk Books is a start up company located in Philadelphia, and the President went to Penn State University, just like I do. I actually met him about 24 years ago at PSU. Anyhow, you should take a few minutes and check out their website and see what else they have, that might be of interest to you. Take a look around and check back and see if I get to interview Mr. White who is the Man behind the curtain of this amazing company. Thanks everyone.

All about Annotations

Today in class I learned how other people annotate their own readings. I use different symbols for different reasons . Other people that I sit near had similar ways of annotating their own readings or writings. The use of brackets and symbols such as stars, or questions marks and smiley faces seem to reign supreme as far as ways to do this. Underlining was also used to annotate with notes next to those to explain the underlining..

Introduction

For my first post, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Joshua Hantman
and I am from Southampton, Pa. I was born in Philadelphia, but I have not spent my
entire life here. I have lived in Colorado, California, Maryland, Illinois, New Jersey, and
a few summers I lived in Maine. I am an avid music fan and love to go and see live
music. I also play guitar even though I am no Eric Clapton. I love to cook, and I do
have a degree in Culinary Arts, but I am back in school now at Pennsylvania State
University earning a degree in Information Science and Technology. People always
ask me what my favorite thing to cook is, and even though I love many things, right
now my favorite is Cold Rice Noodle Salad with Peanut Sauce. I am a huge movie
buff, but I also love a good book. This summer I was in Maine for the season,
and took a trip up to see Stephen King's house, and a bunch of places that were
inspirations for some of his best work. We even got to see him walking his dog,
right around the corner from his house. Just as a side note, I am in my third year
of French at Penn State, and I really wish I could speak it, but it doesn't come
naturally to me at all. I figured I have a degree from a French Culinary
school, so I should speak French. Well that should give you a bit of info about me,
and feel free to ask any questions you may have, and maybe I will answer them.
For now, I will say au revoir.
